We had some fun news this week. Cole Pacquette, a 22 year old young man, received a mission call to the Roseville, CA mission. He has a great understanding of the Gospel and will do well. Because of the depressed local economy he has been working the last few years to help support his family. As he was filling out his papers his stepfather, who had been working 3 and 1/2 jobs to keep things going, got hired at a job that paid better than all of the other jobs combined. A bonus, most unusual for this area, he gets Sundays off and can be in church every Sunday.
Also one of those weeks with some bad news. Two of our less active members told us, one via a letter the other with a note on the door, that they have decided the church isn't for them. We have been working with these people most of the time we have been here in Iron Mountain. The one living locally had been attending church on occasion, but he had also invited a woman to live with him. She may be the problem or it may be something else, we may never know. The other possible loss is the sister that was baptized 30 years ago and immediately lost contact with the church. She lives 75 miles away and so we have seen her only 4 times since we found her. We think we will be able to keep her as a friend and we will still attempt to see her when in her vicinity.
On the other hand we have received permission to teach two other less active members one an endowed man who is struggling after a divorce; the other, the adult son of the 1st Counselor in the branch. This man suffers from some medical issues but has asked for some help with questions he has about the church and doctrine. We have arranged to see them on a regular basis with the goal of seeing them return to full activity.
Today there are tornados in the midwest including Wisconsin. Here it is snowing.
Ahh, such is missionary work,
Elder G-pa and Sister G-ma
