Follow through from last week. Our scheduled visit of prisoner Baker on Memorial Day didn't turn out so well...in the beginning. First Sister Johnson couldn't stay inside the lobby or even in the car while I tried to visit. She was required to leave the area altogether. She left and then I discovered they would not let me in. It seems the last time I visited I was told that visit was a one time exception. I had forgotten that bit of pertinent information and will now have to fill out forms to get cleared for any future visit. When we arrived home I wrote a quick note to explain why we hadn't shown up on the scheduled day, went to the MI prison website to find the proper forms and discovered a way to communicate via e-mail. We have been e-mailing ever since. It costs $.25 for each e-mail. That is a lot cheaper than the cost of gas to get there, 115 miles away. If there is anyone who might be interested in communicating with this 30 something endowed Elder let us know and we will fill in the details.
It gives anyone the deep understanding of God's love for them, His hope for them and His encouraging and eternal support; the support that only a Heavenly Parent could ultimately offer.
Friday evening Kyle and Sandy arrived, via crop duster, to our little outpost here in the U.P. Over the next 4 days (actually three and a half) we were pleased to share with them many of the beauties here in the U.P. They, in fact, are probably tired of the color green, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, deer, a fawn, snakes, buzzards, rabbits, frogs (all of which we saw), riding, cabins, iron mines, a Cornish Pump, blue skies, Mormons, Yoopers and two elderly missionaries. What follows are some of the photos which would be evidence of the preceding claims:
| Two happy miners, they know not what danger lurks underground. |
| The beautiful Memoninee River, cuteness in the foreground too. |
| Some above average Mormons. |
| Lake Superior later that Sunday |
| Driving and riding. |
| The Cornish Pump flywheel, it weighs 40 tons. |
| Deer, out standing in his stream. |
| One of 5 snakes under the sidewalk. |
| This one actually is the Johnson rabbit. |
Thank you Sandy for all of the candid photos and your willingness to be subjected to the back seat.
I almost failed to mention that we had a great visit with my brother Ned and his wife Melanie who stopped towards the end of their 7000 mile bike-about. Each year they mount their beautiful Gold Wing and head off to spectacular and sometimes mundane destinations. We were very happy to see them and happy they included us in their marathon ride.
With love and affection.
Elder and Sister Johnson
